Frosty Patch

Date: 03/01/2017
Location: Newton St Loe
Weather: Cold -2, Sunny
Species (Full list ) Highlights:
11 Goosander, 2 Marsh Tit, 2 Mute Swan, Buzzard, Treecreeper, Stonechat.

Observation:
Housework done and frosty sunshine so Patch walk it was!

After the Blue Rock Thrush yesterday, these a few of mine ICYMI, Laurens yesterday.

Got quite a few keepers of this great looking bird!

I headed out through Bath Mill as the norm with not much to show. Robins, Blackbirds and even Dunnock number high.
With this Dunnock having a mite or something on him/her?

House Sparrow numbers at least 25, and looking great in the winter sunshine.

A few people about down from Send a Cow and on top Lake partly frozen but keeping all the birds top end. Goosander still fishing in a much smaller area.

Managed to get to log Lake side but sun cutting across lake making it hard to get a decent shot.

Got a shot of all 10 Goosander, while watching a incoming duck flying towards me realised it was another Goosander male, missed the shot !

But good news for the resident Mute Swans the male has returned! 14 days away.
Lauren thought it must have went away for Christmas?
I think after dog attack it flew off to recover? Who knows its back.

Top end of lake had Treecreeper, Marsh Tits.

Also 3 Greater Spotted Woodpecker chasing each other and calling. Best shot I could manage.

Been hearing this call at lake for a few weeks sort of like a Wood Pigeon or Collared Dove but different turns out it's a Stock Dove. Listened to sound 100% same.

Walked back past fishing like still looking for Siskin, none. But Kingfisher perched up then flew. This Buzzard the only one I saw today was perched above Newton Park Drive. Didn't seem to mine the people and buses passing beneath.

Redwing and Fieldfare over at village and this Grey Wagtail insect hunting on the old Bakery in Village.

Finished count on 42 species but just before home this Goldfinch landed on Teasle to feed.

Always a stick in the way but liked the background smooth!
